Wild Trout Benefit From A Catch And Release Project

I fly fished one of the Lake Ontario tributaries today that I had  initiated a “catch and release” project on over a year ago. I managed to connect with a fresh lake run female Steelhead and a newly spawned “wild” Steelhead as well. Looks like the catch and release operation is bearing fruit! Wild fish of any species tend to yield more aggressive strikes at your fly, are better fighters and have a stronger immune systems than a hatchery fish. We engage in “catch and release” in hopes to increase the wild populations whenever possible; even if its just one wild fish.  If you actually think about all that these fish have to endure to complete the process of reproduction and then survive the gauntlet of predators and anglers alike, it’s a miracle! Be kind to fish and keep em’ wet.    www.ontariofly.comwebster park 3webster park 2

The second is a "fly fishing only" zone on 18 Mile Creek (Lake Erie). These projects and more highlight my passion for fly fishing, conservation and sharing the sport of fly fishing with others in every way I can.
