Presentation – Fly Rodding for Bass

On Wednesday, May 3rd at Powder Mill Park Fish Hatchery (7:00PM) the Federation of Fly Fishers is hosting a neat program on Fly Fishing for Bass. Here are the details about Fly Rodding for Bass:

On May 3, Kirk Klingensmith will present on fly fishing for bass. Kirk is from Corning, NY.  He is President of Twin Tiers Five Rivers chapter of Fly Fishers International. Kirk has been fly fishing for over 47 years. He is an Engineering Fellow for Corning Inc. He is a life member of TU and FFI. Kirk has fly fished for many fish – from trout, bass, carp, and saltwater. Kirk has a driftboat, inflatable pontoon, and canoe to compliment his pursuit of bass.

Kirk’s talk is intended to overview bass fly fishing – for both smallmouth and largemouth. His advice will be helpful to our local waters – but will also introduce to some exceptional watersheds in the Twin Tiers regions. Kirk will cover bass behavior, techniques, fly selection, and successful approaches.

Bass fly fishing is entirely different than trout methods. The talk is full of tips to help you hook and land more fish. Kirk will share how he approaches both largemouth and smallmouth bass through wade-fishing, float tubes, driftboat, inflatable pontoon and canoe. If you have not tried bass fly fishing, or are frustrated that you are not hooking and landing larger fish – the information in this presentation should improve your fun.

Kirk is currently on vacation fly fishing the Gulf coast saltwater and Everglades. Kirk’s talk will include a short section on Peacock Bass of the Miami area.

Kirk spends a significant amount of his time pursuing bass with a fly rod on many local waters. In 2010, when Bob Clouser was hosted by the TTFR FFI chapter, Kirk guided Bob on the Chemung and Susquehanna. You might be surprised to learn how good the bass fishing is in our area. Kirk’s talk will be full of tips, photos, and helpful strategies. Hope to see you there!

Kirk will be tying his favorite smallmouth fly prior to the talk.

Hope to see you there and let’s support this neat program by our local FFF chapter!

This is Craig and I host Fly Fisher's Workshop. My fly fishing experiences include plenty of travel (Montana/Florida/North Carolina/Maine) and a few years part time guiding for trout. While I primarily target trout and steelhead, I still manage to chase warm water species and enjoy chasing stripers and bluefish. I'm a 3rd generation fly fisher trying to share the passion with my two sons!
