Late tier Jack Gartside created a very effective baitfish imitation with the Gurgler.  Tie this pattern in white, olive, yellow, orange, black, purple and vary both the length and width.  Feel free to experiment with various colors, as well as using permanent markers to help mark the fly.  I add 3-D, 6mm plastic eyes for a more realistic look.  However, I’m not sure that the fish even care about this extra detail!  The Gurgler is a great surface fly for various top water scenarios.  Some prefer to fish this as a suspended fly on a sinking line.  My best luck with this foam pattern is targeting surface feeding fish.  Experiment with your retrieve and don’t hesitate to throw this at freshwater bass/pike, as well as all types of saltwater species.
